Rated in the top five restaurants in Manly, New South Wales, The Herring Room is a seafood restaurant consistently achieving glowing reviews for its high-quality bistro style cuisine served in a relaxed environment.
Owners are wife and husband team Angela Heracleous and Rodney Walsh who previously ran Sydney’s hugely successful The Sardine Room and chose this site, a former surf shop, to create a restaurant for locals.
“You can feed as many tourists as you like but it’s locals who sustain your business,” says Angela. Both, tourists and locals alike feel comfortable in the owner-operated venue with that family feeling.
The surf shop has gone, but the laidback vibe remains. Diners praise features such as the courtyard out back, the open view kitchen, the outstanding customer service and, of course, the menu.
The Herring Room lists the provenance of all of its seafood, sourced locally from sustainable and environmentally sensitive fisheries in Australia and New Zealand. Angela Heracleous prides herself on sourcing the freshest seafood from the Sydney Fish Market. She serves grilled QLD Moreton Bay bugs with salad, NZ whole baby red snapper with red Thai curry sauce, as well as a seafood platter for two filled with delicacies amongst which are local signature oysters, TAS baby calamari with bush pepper aioli, Port Lincoln SA mussels in puttanesca with chilli, anchovies, capers & olives, and much more. Her guests cherish the great variety and excellent quality of the dishes.
